Finalized 2020 State Shoot Information
County Shoots have begun! Good luck and thank you for bearing with us in this crazy, whirlwind year.
2020 State Shooting Sports Championships
As you know, the in-person events in Pueblo and Colorado Springs were canceled this year. When this was announced, we shared that other options were being explored. And now we can provide details about the alternative events.
The 2020 Colorado State 4-H Shooting Sports Championships Alternate Format will be a postal match. Each county will host its own “state shoot” contest. The targets and scorecards will be provided to the State 4-H Shooting Sports Committee. This will be the qualifying event for Colorado 4-H Teams who will attend the 2021 National 4-H Shooting Sports Championships. National qualifiers will be determined as stated in the rule book unless otherwise noted in the information below.
The dates for Larimer County 4-H State Shoots are as follows:
Shotgun: August 18 from 5–8 p.m. and August 25 from 5–8 p.m. at Great Guns in Nunn
Archery: August 22 from 8 a.m.–2 p.m. at The Ranch in Loveland
.22 Rifle: August 29 from 8:00 a.m.–1:30 p.m. at Clausen Ranch in Masonville
Muzzleloading: August 29 from 2:30–4:30 p.m. at Clausen Ranch in Masonville
Air Rifle/Air Pistol: August 30 from 8 a.m.– 2 p.m. at Clausen Ranch in Masonville
.22 Pistol: September 5 from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. at Great Guns in Nunn
Information about State Shoot registration and practices leading up to the state shoots will be provided soon.
If you qualify at county shoot and have met the requirements for entering and receiving a red or blue ribbon on your project, you will have until August 6, 2020 to confirm your plans with the discipline superintendent to participate in the state shoot. The registration fee is $20 per participant. No class fees will be charged.
Revisions for State Shoot Courses of Fire
Some disciplines have a revised course of fire for this year’s state shoot. (Our county shoots are mirroring these alterations.) Click here for the Colorado State Championships Rule Book mentioned below.
.22 Rifle: No course of fire changes from the rule book.
.22 Pistol: No course of fire changes from the rule book.
Air Rifle: No course of fire changes from the rule book.
Air Pistol: No course of fire changes from the rule book.
Muzzleloader: No course of fire changes from the rule book. (If necessary, a standard clay shotgun target suspended 24" off the ground may be used in place of a muzzleloader gong. It must be placed at the required distance listed in the rule book.)
Archery: No 3D targets are included in the contest. Modified FITA courses of fire will be followed as listed in the rule book. Seniors will shoot the Modified FITA course of fire twice, for a total of 40 shots. Juniors will shoot 5 arrows per distance for a total of 20 shots. Tiebreakers will be followed according to the state contest rule book with the second round of FITA replacing the 3D score for seniors. Junior ties will be broken following the rule book. If a tie still remains, the highest scores per distance beginning at 40 yards then 30, 20, and 10 will be used to break the tie in place of the 3D scores.
Shotgun: No Sporting Clays will be included in the contest. The Skeet class will consist of 3 rounds of 25 targets shot in sequence for a total of 75 targets. The Trap class will consist of 3 rounds of 25 targets shot in sequence for a total of 75 targets. The Orion Scoring System will be used to break all ties up to 74 hits. If a competitor hits 75 targets straight, they are to shoot another full round of 25 targets while keeping score on a printable Orion scorecard. If the competitor does not miss, repeat the process until the competitor misses a target during a complete 25 target round. Combined scores for trap and skeet will be used to determine the 2021 national qualifiers.
