Western Heritage State Invitational / September 17, 2023

The Western Heritage contest is broken into Western Action Shooting, a Personal Interview, and a History Knowledge Test. Qualified seniors will be eligible for 2024 National Western Heritage Invitational travel stipend funds.

Participation is limited to youth enrolled in the Western Heritage project. Registration is on 4HOnline. Please register by Friday, Sept 15. Contest cost is $30 each and does not include meals. Please bring payment to the contest.

Shooting Sports Ambassador Applications Open

Applications are open for the 2023 Colorado 4-H Shooting Sports Ambassador Program. The deadline to apply is October 15, 2023.

Colorado 4-H Shooting Sports Ambassador Program Expectations 

As a Colorado 4-H Shooting Sports Ambassador, you will be representing over 82,000 4-H youth and alumni from across Colorado. Remember, you never get a second chance to make a good first impression. As an Ambassador you will be meeting with potential donors who are CEOs of companies, University Administrators, and others that support the Colorado 4-H program. The way you present yourself, speak, and act are very important when you are serving as an Ambassador. 

  • You will be expected to be on time, so plan to be early to any event. 

  • You are to respond promptly to any emails or phone calls from the State 4-H Program Director, State 4-H Shooting Sports Specialist, or Advisors. 

  • Ambassadors serve at the request of the Colorado 4-H Program at the direction of the Colorado State 4-H Program Director and the Colorado State 4-H Shooting Sports Specialist and can be relieved from State 4-H Shooting Sports Ambassador duties and privileges for misconduct or not following the rules. 

If selected as a Colorado 4-H Shooting Sports Ambassador you will: 

  • Provide leadership as active youth members of the Colorado State 4-H Shooting Sports Advisory Committee. 

  • Serve as a positive role model, what you say and do reflects on the entire 4-H Program. 

  • Give demonstrations, provide public speeches, work with the State 4-H Shooting Sports team at State 4-H Shooting Sports Leader Trainings, assist with your county and state 4-H contests, meet new people, develop contacts, develop leadership skills, and serve your community. 

  • Instill ethics, sportsmanship, and responsibility in all 4-H programs and activities. Develop leadership skills.

  • Promote the safe, responsible handling and storage of firearms and archery equipment. Expand Colorado 4-H membership and participation in 4-H Shooting Sports. 

  • Always be courteous and respectful of others. Set a good example. 

  • Be inclusive, positive, encouraging, and welcoming of all 4-H members regardless of their Shooting Sports knowledge, skills, and abilities. 

  • Conduct yourself in a professional and ethical manner.

  • Adhere to State and National 4-H guidelines and be technologically competent.

State Shoot Schedule: Weekend 2 Including Relay Times

The schedule for weekend two of the state shoot including the .22 Pistol and Shotgun disciplines is now available. Please download the latest schedule. Revisions to relays are highlighted in yellow, and in red text.

Please plan to arrive one hour before your shoot time to ensure that you’re there and ready to go!

Muzzleloading Shoot in Fort Lupton / September 9

The Fort Lupton Muzzle Loading Club has extended an invitation to their shoot on September 9 at 10:00 a.m. The range is located at South Platte Valley Historic Park, 2001 Historic Pkwy, Fort Lupton, Colorado.

Their club will pair an older, experienced shooter with a youngster for a fun-filled match.

The competition will include 5 shots at a single bull target, 5 shots at a bottle target, and 5 shots at a 4” gong. Distances are 25 yards and 50 yards, depending on the age of the younger participant.

Brayden Rinebarger Travels to Western Heritage

Brayden Rinebarger and the Larimer County 4-H Western Heritage Key Leader, Dennis Rinebarger, traveled to Price, Utah for the 4-H Western Heritage National Conference and Invitational Shoot from July 30–August 2. Three other 4-H members from Colorado attended as well.

Day one included the flag ceremony, shooting practice, pizza/pool party, scavenger hunt, and testing. Dennis was also sworn in as a range officer.

Day two was 6 stages of shooting, chuck wagon lunch, and interviews. Brayden earned his Clean Run Badge.

Day three wrapped up with 6 stages of shooting, range clean-up, museum tours, and the awards banquet.

Air Rifle/Air Pistol Fun Shoot

Both Larimer County and Weld County Air Rifle and Air Pistol 4-H members are invited for a Fun Shoot on Saturday, August 12 from 9:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. at the McKee Building at The Ranch.

The fun will include:
• Shooting various kinds of targets,
• Playing Shooting Sports games,
• Shooting various air rifles and air pistols,
• Sharing a potluck lunch.

Archery Fun Shoot

It’s been a great year, and it’s time to celebrate with some FUN!

Join us for a fun shoot on Thursday, July 27 at 6:00 p.m. at the practice field east of the McKee Building.

Family members are invited to join their archers on the line. Either bring your bow or try shooting with county equipment. All shooters will be required to fill out a liability waiver. And only those 4-H age 8 and older are allowed to participate.
