Poll: Interest in Hunter Education Course

Do you want to get your hunter education card? Have you had trouble finding a local course with openings?

We are gauging interest to help us decide whether to host another hunter education opportunity.

The first half, the internet course, would need to be completed prior to the in-person portion, held on Saturday, June 25 and Sunday, June 26.

To be eligible to compete at state shoot, should the member qualify, a hunter education card must be uploaded by July 1, 2022. This course would fulfill that requirement. And we will turn in the hunter ed cards to the extension office by the deadline.

Please click here to visit the poll and let us know that you are interested.

Park County 4-H Western Heritage Invitational

Park County is hosting a 4-H Western Heritage Invitational on June 4th and is inviting Western Heritage families to attend.

Registration opens on May 6 on 4HOnline, and will close on May 29. The registration fee is $25.

It will begin at 8:00 a.m. on June 4th at the Park County Shooting Range, 22535 County Road 15, Como, Colorado 80432 and try to complete four stages around 12:00 p.m. Then we will go to Fairplay so families can get lunch on their own. After lunch everyone will meet at the Fairplay Community Center at 880 Bogue Street, 80440, on the Fairgrounds for the Persona Interview and History Knowledge Exam. The results will be announced and families will be able to leave or take part in an optional tour of the South Park City Museum. South Park City is centered right in the sweet spot of the 4-H Western Heritage Project time period. It is a lot of fun and they have great artifacts from the era.

Keep your saddle oiled and your gun greased.

Larimer County members: Reach out to Jackie Easthouse if you have any questions or are interested in attending.

Archery Indoor Practices Split

Due to the large number of members participating in the archery program this year, we need to make some adjustments to our indoor practice schedule to accommodate the shooters safely in the limited space available.

Beginning with the Tuesday, April 26 practice, we are splitting the group by last name and assigning an hour practice time. Please only attend your designated hour so all will have an enjoyable, safe practice.

April 26

  • 6:00–7:00 p.m. Last names beginning A–K

  • 7:00–8:00 p.m. Last names beginning L–Z

May 3

  • 6:00–7:00 p.m. Last names beginning L–Z

  • 7:00–8:00 PM Last names beginning A–K

May 10

  • To be determined

If you are in the 6:00 time slot, please arrive 15 minutes early to help set up the range. If you are in the 7:00 time slot, please remain to help tear down the range. It should take only about 15 minutes for each set-up and tear-down.

Once we move outside on May 19th, we'll have plenty of room to accommodate everyone at practice, plus 3D targets.

We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday night.

Get it done, and email with questions!

Practice Procedures for 2022

This year, the Shooting Sports program is not required to have a SignUpGenius for every practice session. It is up to each discipline to choose whether a signup is beneficial for their practice schedule.

Most disciplines have opted NOT to use SignUpGenius. For those disciplines, watch the calendar for practice dates and times, and come when it is convenient for your family. Be sure to sign up for Remind alerts for your disciplines, so you will know if there is a change in schedule or a cancellation due to weather or other circumstances.

The disciplines that are NOT using SignUpGenius are:

  • Air Pistol

  • Air Rifle

  • Archery

  • Muzzleloading

  • Outdoor Skills

  • Shotgun

  • .22 Pistol (Outdoor at Great Guns)

  • Western Heritage

The disciplines that ARE using SignupGenius this year are:

  • .22 Pistol (Indoor at Liberty Firearms Institute)

  • .22 Rifle (Indoor at Liberty Firearms Institute and Outdoor at Clausen Ranch)

If you have any questions, please reach out to your superintendent or email info@lc4hss.org.
