Plan to arrive at the range 1–2 hours prior to your scheduled time and check in right away with Linda Squibb at the Larimer County canopies.
Borrowing Equipment
If you need to borrow county equipment for the state shoot, please come to practice on August 8 or August 15 and plan to transport it to the shoot. We will NOT be transporting the trailer and extra county equipment. If you have questions, please email Linda Squibb.
State Shoot Shirts
The Larimer County State Shoot shirts are in for those who ordered them. They were available to pick up at project check-out yesterday. If you were unable to pick yours up, we will have them at practices on August 8 and 15.
What to Bring
Before you leave home, double check that you have all of your archery equipment including safety equipment, bow, arrows (8–12 arrows are recommended).
Bring lots of water, lunch, and snacks for your group. Also bring sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, chairs, canopies. It will most likely be hot, so come prepared with whatever you need to stay cool.
The 4-H Dress Code will be enforced. Be sure to bring appropriate clothing or you will risk of having yourself and your team disqualified. You can review the dress code here: http://tinyurl.com/yyxb6mzv
When You Arrive
When you arrive at the archery range 1–2 hours early, check in with superintendent Linda Squibb first! If you're running late or have a question, you can call or text her at 970-215-5955. She will be at the canopies set up for Larimer County with our banner on the side. Our toolbox will be available, so see Linda if you need something.
The Competition
Juniors and Seniors will be scoring themselves just like at the County Shoot. If you disagree with a score, don't argue with fellow competitors. Call for a range officer to make the call. Be sure to understand the scoring rules, such as “Arrows touched before they are scored will count as a zero,” (State Rule Book pp.41 #13). The competitors cannot enforce these rules, but they can ask a range officer to enforce them. You can find the rule book here. You can also review the Scoring Tip Sheet and Scoring Key.
You will be allowed to bring extra arrows in your quiver up to the equipment check area. Before you step on to the range, place all except 5 of your arrows in the bucket if you are a senior, and 3 arrows if you are a junior. Your bucket will travel down the shooting line with you. Before you leave the range, pick up your extra arrows.
Parents, if you signal or talk to your child at all, they may be disqualified. Same thing goes if the participant signals or talks to you. They get very nasty about this because individuals have cheated by coaching during the competition in the past. No electronics, binoculars, or range finders are allowed on the range. If a participant has any type of equipment problem, contact a line judge/range officer. They will have a limited time to return to the Larimer County canopy area to try to resolve the problem. Then they will be worked back into the shooting line. Participants, do not hesitate to ask for assistance from a line judge/range officer if you have questions or problems.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO BE THE BEST GOOD SPORT POSSIBLE. This means waiting at the line until the archers beside you are no longer at full draw. It can be very distracting to have people moving on and off the line next to you. When the round is complete, congratulate and shake hands with fellow competitors, even if they score higher than you.
Parents of participants, please ask the range personnel if there is anything you can do to help. Larimer County has a great reputation for being one of the most helpful counties, and with your help I would like to maintain that tradition. Certified leaders, please sign up to help on the range. It makes for a long day if there are no subs to help on the range.
Awards
The awards presentation will be held following each day's competition. If you are unable to stay, let Linda know and your awards will be collected and distributed by someone from your club, or can be picked up at the Extension Office.
